Making an antenna for NVIS
Every radio amateur should have a NVIS (near vertical incidence skywave) antenna for local and regional contacts. You may already have a NVIS antenna in your yard. In this video, Dave Casler (KE0OG) discusses how to design, build, and use this practical antenna. In the simplest terms, any dipole antenna mounted approximately 1.8 wavelength above ground should work very well. If your dipole is cut for the 40 meter band, all you have to do is support the antenna 17-feet (5.182-meters) above ground. That height should give you a range of approximately 300 miles/482.802 kilometers).
