My Favourite HF Antenna

Most hams I know prefer a limited selection of HF antennas for home and portable use.  These antennas include dipoles, verticals, and multi-element beams.

In this video, Allan (VA3BHY) makes a strong case for a 71-ft (21.64m) random length wire antenna.  According to Allan, his antenna covers 5 HF bands and fits snuggly onto his property.

While this antenna isn't for everybody, it does well in cramped spaces.  Carefully designed with the proper baluns and a sturdy antenna transmatch (tuner), this antenna will provide hours of enjoyment.  Give this antenna a try--you will be surprised how well it performs.

Here are some comments from Allan (VA3BHY):

This video will show the performance of my 71 feet long wire antenna all DIY. I prefer this antenna from all the antennas I have made or purchased. It is a multi-band antenna. Watch the video and you will know what I am talking about. This is interesting especially when you are operating FT8.
